KHS&S completed a major expansion and renovation of the University of Colorado at Boulder’s football stadium. The 220,000 square foot complex houses; a state-of-the-art Champions Center with locker rooms, dining facilities and a lounge, which serves as the new home of CU Football and Athletic Administration, and an Indoor Practice Facility serving all sports programs.
KHS&S completed all exteriors, including metal stud framing, EIFS and Plaster. The most significant challenge on this project was installing the exterior panel system on a building that was not originally designed for a curtain wall system. KHS&S worked hand in hand with the structural engineer to create a solution, which involved installing the panels between floor slabs. Our team had less than an inch of flexibility in the panels. This type of installation differs greatly from the typical installation of stacking the panels on top of each other. In the fabrication of the panels, KHS&S utilized a Panel Yard that was less than 30 miles away. Utilizing a panel yard increased time on the fabrication of the panels as well as having a “Just in Time” delivery and installation.
